OUR PURPOSE

According to the 2022 Georgia Milestones Assessment System testing, 41% of Troup County third graders are reading below grade level. Get Troup Reading exists to increase the impact that citizens and organizations in the community have on a child’s ability to read and write.

Get Troup Reading is an initiative to promote collaboration of all community stakeholders to improve childhood literacy in Troup County, Georgia. It was founded by the Troup County Center for Strategic Planning in 2017 to be the local initiative of Georgia’s Get Georgia Reading Campaign through a partnership with the Troup Family Connection Authority.

Our goal is to have 100% of Troup County third-graders reading on grade level. To reach this goal we use the Get Georgia Reading four-pillar framework to support literacy education through language nutrition, access, positive learning climate, teacher preparation and effectiveness. This endeavor involves working with all businesses, faith-based organizations, local non-profits, the school system, and all members of the Troup County community.
